Troy Howarth was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania—about 90 minutes-or-so from George A. Romero-ville, a.k.a. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A genre fanatic from a worryingly early age, he started writing for his own amusement while still a beardless youth. He wrote his first book on Italian cult cinema while still in college and has since racked up a number of books on everything from Italian cinema to Spanish cinema and beyond. His favourite filmmakers include the likes of Mario Bava, Roman Polanski, Martin Scorsese, Federico Fellini, and Werner Herzog—and in more recent years he has managed to parlay his love of the medium into an absurd number of audio commentaries, liner notes, and audio essays included in DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD releases from the likes of Shout! Factory, Kino Lorber, Synapse Films, 88 Films, Arrow Video, Blue Underground, and more. He has also contributed articles and essays to various publications. A social worker by profession, he enjoys spending what little free time he possesses with his dog Max and his cat Wookie.
