Tim Lucas

Now in his 50th year as a published author, film historian and novelist Tim Lucas has produced a mind-boggling body of work that encompasses criticism, fiction, articles, essays, biography, blogging, comics, screenwriting, book introductions, poetry, songwriting, and most recently, more than 125 audio commentaries for Blu-rays and DVDs.

The former editor and co-publisher of the legendary Video Watchdog magazine (1990-2017), he has been a regular contributor to Cinefantastique (1972-1983) and the author of Sight & Sound’s long-running “NoZone” column about offbeat films (2003-2012), while his ongoing, award-winning Video WatchBlog has amassed some 1500+ articles and essays since its inception.

His published works to date include two well-received horror novels, Throat Sprockets (1994, included in Jones & Newman’s Horror: Another 100 Best Books) and The Book of Renfield: A Gospel of Dracula (2005), monographs on David Cronenberg’s Videodrome (2008) and the Edgar Allan Poe anthology Spirits of the Dead (2018) and the mammoth Saturn Award-winning critical biography Mario Bava – All the Colors of the Dark (2007).

A leading authority on horror and fantastic cinema, and European cinema in general, he has received numerous awards for his efforts, including 20 Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Film Awards, as well as membership in the Monster Kid Hall of Fame and the Rondo Legacy Award for 27 years of Video Watchdog. His works presently awaiting publication include The Man With Kaleidoscope Eyes (a comic novel based on his original screenplay about Roger Corman and the 1966 filming of The Trip); The Only Criminal (a darkly comic fantasy novel); The Secret Life of Love Songs (a magic realist novella equipped with its own soundtrack CD); and another movie monograph on Jess Franco’s Necronomicon/Succubus.
