Dr. Steve Haberman is a screenwriter, author and film historian. He has written stories and screenplays for four feature films, three of which with Mel Brooks, including Life Stinks (1991) and Dracula, Dead and Loving It (1995). He has also received Prime Time Emmy Award nominations for producing HBO comedy specials featuring Mel Brooks, wrote and directed an award winning short film, and has taught film courses at colleges and universities in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. He received his PhD in Film Studies from De Montfort University in Leicester, England, and earned his BA in Cinema from the University of Southern California.

Steve, along with producer Constantine Nasr, wrote a documentary on the films of the legendary producer of horror movies at RKO in the 1940s, Val Lewton, called Shadows in the Dark: The Val Lewton Legacy (2005); and also wrote a documentary on movies based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, called Dreams Within a Dream: The Classic Cinema of Edgar Allan Poe (2019).

Steve has also contributed interviews to several documentaries and DVD supplements as an expert on cinema history and aesthetics, in addition to providing numerous Blu-ray and DVD audio commentaries on classic movies for Universal, Warner Brothers, MGM, Fox, Kino-Lorber, Shout Factory and others—winning the Rondo Award for Best Commentary for his audio with Rick Baker and others on Universal’s 1932 classic, The Mummy. Steve has also published a book on the history of silent horror films, Silent Screams: Chronicles of Terror, and more recently, has written a critical study on Roger Corman’s The Masque of the Red Death, as part of the Devil’s Advocates series of books.
