Film Synopsis
The Masque of the Red Death (1964) depicts the tyrannical Prince Prospero, who shelters himself and his privileged court within a lavish castle as a devastating plague spreads across the land. As decadent festivities, occult rituals, and sinister intrigues consume the isolated court, an atmosphere of fear, temptation, and mounting uncertainty overshadows every celebration. This British Gothic horror film blends supernatural mystery, philosophical allegory, and lavish period spectacle, exploring power, mortality, corruption, faith, and humanity’s struggle against the inevitable.
