Film Synopsis
Pit and the Pendulum (1961) chronicles a visitor’s arrival at an isolated castle in sixteenth-century Spain, where troubling questions surround the recent death of his sister. As disturbing incidents unsettle the household, suspicion grows over what has taken place within the estate. This Gothic horror film builds its mystery around grief, guilt, and madness, with Vincent Price’s increasingly distressed performance and Roger Corman’s expressive direction intensifying its psychological tension.

- Scream Factory’s 2013 Blu-ray is included in “The Vincent Price Collection” box sets with The Fall of the House of Usher (1960), The Haunted Palace (1963), The Masque of the Red Death (1964), Witchfinder General (1968) and The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971). It contains a 24-page booklet with writing by David Del Valle. Reissued without introduction by Vincent Price (2020/09/22).
- Arrow’s Blu-ray includes a 24-page booklet with writing by Jonathan Rigby (“The Waiting Pit of Hell”). It is also available as a SteelBook and in the “Vincent Price in Six Gothic Tales by Edgar Allan Poe” box set containing a 200-page booklet.
- MGM’s “Midnite Movies” DVD is also available as a “Double Feature” with The Fall of the House of Usher (1960).
