House on Haunted Hill (1959) follows a group of strangers invited to spend the night in a supposedly haunted mansion in exchange for a cash reward. As elaborate scares give way to genuine terror, greed and mistrust fracture the group under mounting psychological pressure. This gimmick-driven horror blends macabre showmanship and cynical humor in a playful study of fear, manipulation, and mortal temptation.
