Film Synopsis
The Shadow of the Cat (1961) portrays a wealthy household whose carefully concealed crime begins to unravel as guilt and paranoia consume those responsible for a brutal murder. As fear turns the conspirators against one another, the victim’s devoted cat becomes an inescapable reminder of the secret they are desperate to protect. The film draws on Gothic horror, psychological suspense, and mystery to explore guilt, retribution, and the destructive power of fear within a family bound by deception.

Edition and Packaging Notes
- Scream Factory’s Blu-ray includes a 12-page booklet. It is included in the “Universal Horror Collection, Volume 6” box set with The Black Castle (1952), Cult of the Cobra (1955) and The Thing That Couldn’t Die (1958).
- Anolis’s Blu-ray is also available in three MediaBook editions.
- Umbrella’s Blu-ray is included in the “Hammer Horror Triple Shock, Volume Two” box set with Night Creatures (1962) and The Phantom of the Opera (1962). It contains a 16-page booklet with writing by John Harrison (“Hammer Horror in the Early-1960s: A Diversity of Diabolical Delights”).
- Indicator’s Blu-ray is included in the “Hammer Volume Six: Night Shadows” box set with Captain Clegg (1962), The Phantom of the Opera (1962) and Nightmare (1964). It contains a 36-page booklet with writing by Craig Ian Mann (“Chasing ‘The Shadow of the Cat’”). Reissued separately without booklet (2024/02/26).
