Them! (1954) centers on a New Mexico state police sergeant whose investigation into a series of unexplained desert attacks uncovers giant ants created by atomic testing. As the insects establish expanding colonies that threaten to spread beyond the Southwest, scientists, law enforcement, and military forces unite in a desperate effort to locate and eliminate the growing menace before it reaches heavily populated areas. This science fiction monster film combines procedural investigation with large-scale creature spectacle, emphasizing scientific cooperation, atomic-age anxiety, vigilance, and humanity’s determination to confront an unprecedented biological threat.
