One by one they will die! Only the killer knows why and how and who is next!
The House That Screamed (1969) follows a teenage girl sent to a strict boarding school for troubled young women in nineteenth-century France. As she adjusts to the oppressive discipline imposed by the headmistress and her favored student assistant, she becomes aware of strange behavior and the unexplained disappearance of several girls. This Spanish gothic horror film blends psychological repression, institutional cruelty, and murder mystery while examining authority, sexual repression, and hidden violence.

Taking its cue from the Gothic sub-genre in Italy, The House That Screamed is a well-done movie with enough intimated perversity to make exploitation film lovers happy. … It doesn’t move fast but it’s always engaging, thanks to a fine cast, and if you stick around long enough you’ll find it time well spent. The ending is pure exploitation gold!
