Film Synopsis
A Candle for the Devil (1973) centers on two middle-aged sisters who operate a small boarding house in a conservative Spanish town. As their rigid religious beliefs and intolerance of changing social values intensify while young female visitors attract their suspicion through behavior they regard as immoral, a series of disappearances begins to draw unwanted attention to the household. This Spanish horror film examines repression and fanaticism within a society caught between tradition and modernity, as moral certainty gives way to violence, with religious obsession, murder, and psychological tension.
