Her body is bruised and embraced beyond her wildest dreams…
Film Synopsis
Eugenie (1970) follows a naive young woman who accepts an invitation to spend a weekend on a secluded island, only to become entangled in disturbing sexual experiments orchestrated by her host. As her experiences descend into perverse power games and psychological manipulation, she begins to lose control over her own body and identity. This erotic horror-drama blends sadistic fantasy, dreamlike surrealism, and moral transgression in a provocative journey through desire and corruption.
Critical Perspective
-
My choice for Jess Franco’s best film! With a high budget, great cast and an interesting, kinky adult story that still allows his genius to shine through, Eugenie is a great example of what could have been a more traditional filmmaking path for Franco. … Dreamy and nightmarish at the same time, Eugenie starts out like those wonderful European soft-core films from likes of directors like Radley Metzger, but it soon degenerates into a wild S&M fantasy where the lines between reality and fiction are blurred. … This film is everything one expects from a treatment of the Marquis de Sade’s work, in that it’s sexy, unnerving and occasionally quite provocative. A definite must-see!
