King of the Paris underworld.
Synopsis
Touchez pas au grisbi (1954) centers on a veteran criminal attempting to quietly retire after successfully stealing a cache of gold bullion with his longtime partner. As rival gangsters learn about the hidden loot and kidnappings, double-crosses, and shifting loyalties intensify throughout Paris’s criminal circles while the aging gangster struggles to protect both the stolen fortune and the few relationships he still values, violence steadily closes in around him. This French crime drama examines aging and loyalty within a weary postwar underworld, as suspicion spreads, with organized crime, betrayal, and fatalistic masculinity.
