Synopsis
They Drive by Night (1940) centers on two brothers who operate a small trucking business in California during a period of economic uncertainty. As exhausting overnight hauls, mounting debts, and fierce competition threaten their livelihood while opportunities for success appear just within reach, their fortunes become increasingly entangled with the lives of a trucking company owner and his ambitious wife. This crime drama examines ambition and survival within a world shaped by economic pressures and personal desires, as the pursuit of success gives way to jealousy, betrayal, and tragedy, with labor struggles, romance, and criminal intrigue.
