Synopsis

The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) follows a Rome police detective who travels to Florence to track a serial rapist and murderer but collapses in a museum after experiencing a disorienting reaction to art. As the killer exploits her condition and subjects her to traumatic violence, her recovery blurs with obsession, intensifying her instability and reshaping her pursuit of justice. This Italian psychological horror thriller blends subjective hallucination, erotic violence, and giallo stylization in an examination of trauma, identity, and the erosion of control.
