Living dead men – existing on the flesh of the young and beautiful!
Film Synopsis
The Ghost Galleon (1974) centers on two models participating in a publicity stunt who vanish after encountering a derelict vessel lost in the ocean. As a search party follows their trail while the ship is revealed to be the floating refuge of the blind undead Knights Templar, the rescue mission develops into a desperate struggle for survival. This Spanish horror film examines isolation and dread within a surreal maritime setting, as an endless sea and an ancient curse transform a ghostly vessel into a realm of terror, with undead revenants, supernatural menace, and gothic atmosphere.
Critical Perspective
-
The third in the popular Blind Dead series has a great premise, but unfortunately bad pacing, and some of the worst special effects imaginable, sabotage it. … The problem with the film is that it takes forever to get to the good stuff. Before the arrival of the Templars we’re treated to a kidnapping plot as well as a lot of senseless arguing with characters we don’t care about and some amazingly bad special effects. When the Knights arrive on the scene, the movie picks up immensely, as de Ossorio’s creatures are the stuff of nightmares and the ship’s atmosphere, with rolling fog, genuinely enhances the chilling effect they have. De Ossorio wisely puts his Templar Knights back on land for the final instalment, Night of the Seagulls (1975).
