The story of an American woman and her abandonment in Rome.
The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (1961) follows a recently widowed American actress who retreats to Rome, only to find herself adrift between fading fame and the attentions of a calculating young gigolo. As loneliness and vanity draw her deeper into a transactional romance arranged by a manipulative countess, illusion and self-deception cloud her search for dignity. This romantic drama blends expatriate melancholy and sexual politics in a restrained study of aging, desire, and emotional vulnerability.
