Synopsis
The Bandit (1946) follows former prisoner of war Ernesto as he returns to Turin after the war and discovers his mother dead, his home destroyed, and his sister missing. As failed attempts to rebuild his life lead him into the orbit of criminals and black market activity, personal tragedy and desperation draw him deeper into violent acts that place him in direct conflict with authorities. This Italian neorealist crime drama centers on postwar disillusionment and moral collapse, as social conditions deteriorate, with poverty, criminal survival, and emotional desperation.
