Synopsis
Night of Violence (1965) follows the sister of a murdered call girl who seeks answers after the killing shocks the city and draws police attention. As further attacks and attempted murders occur, investigators uncover connections to prostitution rings and criminal activity while struggling to identify the elusive masked assailant. This Italian crime thriller blends early giallo elements, urban paranoia, and procedural investigation.
Criticism
-
Night of Violence owes an obvious debt to Mario Bava’s Blood and Black Lace (1964), but its black-and-white cinematography and emphasis on police procedural scenes align it mainly to the more traditional strain of murder mysteries. There are red herrings galore, but they are so obvious that they never really come off as likely suspects; the few murder scenes also lack the sadistic charge of Bava’s film.
