Synopsis
Altered States (1980) follows a Harvard scientist who conducts experiments using sensory deprivation tanks combined with hallucinogenic substances to explore human consciousness. As the experiments intensify, he begins to experience increasingly severe regressions that manifest physically, placing strain on his relationships and control over his own body. This science fiction horror film develops mounting pressure and growing unease, with identity, evolution, and the limits of human perception shaping events.
