“A Foreign Affair” is a funny affair!
Synopsis
A Foreign Affair (1948) centers on a congressional delegation visiting occupied Berlin to assess conditions among American forces stationed in the devastated city after World War II. As a straight-laced congresswoman grows suspicious of a military officer’s relationship with a glamorous German singer while political scrutiny, romantic complications, and lingering wartime tensions complicate the investigation, personal and ideological conflicts begin to collide. This romantic comedy-drama examines postwar reconstruction and cultural misunderstanding within a divided and recovering Germany, as personal loyalties challenge official responsibilities, with political satire, romantic rivalry, and postwar uncertainty.
