aka Il dolce corpo di Deborah

Poster of The Sweet Body of Deborah

A newlywed couple’s honeymoon in Switzerland turns sinister when a stranger accuses the husband of murder, and the wife begins experiencing eerie visions and paranoia. As suspicion and tension mount, secrets from the past threaten to destroy their fragile trust. This stylish Italian giallo blends mystery, psychological suspense, and seductive intrigue in a tale of deception and deadly obsession.

Top giallo screenwriter Ernesto Gastaldi takes the basic concept behind [Les Diaboliques (1955)] and reworks it to interesting ends with The Sweet Body of Deborah. It proved to have just the right elements and connected with audiences in a way that earlier gialli did not. It would lead, in turn, to a small run of erotic thrillers. … The Sweet Body of Deborah is a seminal giallo. It helped to set the stage for the more audacious work of Fulci and Lenzi and would serve as a reminder that audiences were receptive to glamorous thrillers about pretty but amoral people indulging in bad behavior in photogenic locations. … thus leading to a spike in production of Italian thrillers.

  • Although it seems tame nowadays, in the late Sixties the openly sexual goings-on and the cruel actions of the calculating characters made The Sweet Body of Deborah a real eye-opener.
