The Blood Rose (1970) follows a portrait painter whose wife is severely burned during a confrontation with a jealous former lover at a celebration. As her isolation and instability deepen inside their château, he coerces a disgraced surgeon into performing illicit grafting procedures that require unwilling female victims. This French gothic horror film centers on obsessive reconstruction and moral collapse, as control begins to break down, with bodily disfigurement, erotic fixation, and surgical transgression.
