Savage Weekend (1979) brings a group of city friends to a remote farmhouse in upstate New York to inspect the progress of a schooner being built on the property. Unease surrounding the local residents and tensions among the visitors escalate when a killer wearing a grotesque mask begins targeting the group. This early slasher combines rural isolation, interpersonal conflict, and masked-killer violence in a precursor to the genre’s 1980s cycle.
