Best of enemies. Deadliest of friends.
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) follows aging gunman Pat Garrett after he becomes sheriff of Lincoln County in 1881 New Mexico and is tasked by influential cattle barons with eliminating the outlaw Billy the Kid. As Garrett pursues his former companion across the territory after the Kid escapes from custody, the chase reflects the closing of the frontier and the growing power of business interests in the West. This western blends historical legend, moral conflict, and elegiac reflection in a revisionist portrait of friendship, betrayal, and the end of the outlaw era.
