At a time when Italian horror was running out of steam, becoming uglier and even more derivative than ever, The Spider Labyrinth stood out from the pack. It’s a bleak and despairing film (“There is no God. There is no light. There is nothing.”) but it’s also a very beautiful one, one seemingly made with a decent budget that Giagni made full use of.
