Film Synopsis

Jamaica Inn (1939) follows a young woman who travels to Cornwall to live with her aunt and uncle at their inn in the early nineteenth century. She discovers that it serves as a base for shipwreckers, and her intervention to protect a man threatened by the gang makes her a target. This period adventure thriller contrasts the storm-battered coast with the inn’s crowded interiors, giving its scenes of pursuit and confrontation a rough, threatening atmosphere.
