“If God could do the tricks that we can do, he’d be a happy man…”
Film Synopsis
The Stunt Man (1980) centers on a fugitive who stumbles onto the production of a war film and takes the place of a recently deceased stuntman while hiding from the police. As he performs increasingly dangerous scenes, he grows suspicious of the director’s elaborate deceptions and uncertain about how far the filmmaker will go to achieve the results he wants. This comedy thriller turns a movie production into a shifting contest between illusion and reality, using its film-within-a-film structure to explore manipulation, control, and the risks demanded in the pursuit of spectacle.
