Film Synopsis

The Confession (1964) concerns an experienced thief who arrives in a small Italian town and poses as a painter while searching for legendary treasure beneath a church statue. The owner of a local brothel becomes his ally, but a misunderstanding at the statue convinces the townspeople that a miracle has occurred and draws attention to the site. This caper comedy builds its broad humour around the collision between a private treasure hunt and the community’s growing religious excitement.
