Joseph Wambaugh’s done it again. But he has never done it like this before. “The Black Marble” is a motion picture different than anything Joseph Wambaugh has ever written.
Synopsis
The Black Marble (1980) follows a veteran Los Angeles police detective who is emotionally worn and fond of Russian folk romance as he is paired with a tough, no-nonsense female partner to investigate an unusual case involving the ransom kidnapping of an elite socialite’s beloved show dog. Their shared work on the bizarre case draws them closer personally even as they pursue the hapless kidnapper, a gambler in need of cash who is comically ill-prepared for crime and anxiety. This crime comedy-drama blends unusual character study, offbeat humor, romantic development and police procedural intrigue in an engaging look at flawed lives intersecting in unpredictable ways.
