Film Synopsis
Defiance (1980) follows a suspended merchant seaman named Tommy who moves into a tough New York City neighborhood and finds that a vicious street gang known as the Souls is terrorizing the community. As he is drawn into conflict with the gang and befriends his neighbors, Tommy begins to stand up to the gang’s violence while others watch and hesitate to act. The film blends gritty urban drama and action as the neighborhood’s oppressed residents gradually find courage and push back against the gang’s reign of fear.
