Synopsis
Black Gravel (1961) follows a truck driver in a small West German village built up around a U.S. Air Force base, who exploits the postwar boom by illegally selling gravel on the black market and rekindles a fraught romance with a former lover now married to an American officer. As their clandestine liaison deepens amid a backdrop of economic desperation, vice, and competing moral codes, a tragic accident and ensuing cover‑up tighten the atmosphere of suspicion and consequence. This German crime drama blends bleak postwar realism and noir‑tinged tension in a stark portrayal of survival and disillusionment.
