M.G.M’s mammoth technicolor musical spectacle!
Synopsis
Bathing Beauty (1944) centers on a successful composer whose marriage collapses after his wife discovers he manipulated their relationship to avoid military service. As he infiltrates her women’s college under false pretenses and increasingly chaotic romantic misunderstandings spread through the campus while musical performances and aquatic spectacles disrupt the school’s routines, his efforts at reconciliation spiral into comic disorder. This musical comedy examines romance and deception within a highly stylized wartime entertainment setting, as personal complications intensify, with romantic pursuit, elaborate musical spectacle, and comedic misunderstanding.
