Film Synopsis
An ambitious Irishman, Redmond Barry, rises through 18th-century European society by assuming the identity of a nobleman and marrying into wealth. His ascent is marked by deception, duels, and manipulation, but his arrogance and misfortune gradually lead to his downfall. Told with painterly precision and detached irony, the story unfolds as a tragic meditation on fate, class, and the vanity of ambition.
