Synopsis
Sex Is Crazy (1981) follows a cabaret performer whose life intersects with strange figures, including extraterrestrial beings secretly operating among humans. As alien abductions, espionage elements, and surreal encounters unfold, reality becomes increasingly fragmented and unstable. This Spanish science fiction film blends erotic spectacle, surreal narrative structure, and absurdist humor.

What begins as a sexy science fiction comedy turns into a paranoiac crime drama, then swerves off into horror, back to comedy, into deconstructed porno… This proves to be the way throughout the film. … El sexo está loco certainly lives up to its title. The film has a slippery, unstable quality, the product of a highly developed mind with a wayward, capricious wit. … It’s simultaneously the artiest and the silliest of [Jess Franco’s] films, and it plays equally well as a postmodernist deconstruction of his work or a party-hour send-up. A frivolous curio masquerading as jaundiced self-parody? Or is it the other way round? … In the end, this film exists because sex is crazy, art is crazy, and Jess Franco is crazy.
