The Women (1939) portrays a New York society wife who learns through her friends that her husband is having an affair with a perfume-counter saleswoman. Public embarrassment drives her toward a Reno divorce, while the romantic entanglements of her companions create new divisions within the group. This comedy-drama keeps every male character off screen, allowing an all-female ensemble and rapid dialogue to drive the story while a Technicolor fashion show interrupts the otherwise black-and-white presentation.
