The Ninth Gate

Film Synopsis

The Ninth Gate (1999) follows a New York rare-book dealer hired to authenticate a seventeenth-century text reputed to summon the Devil. Comparing it with surviving copies in Europe, he encounters threats and deception that suggest his employer’s interests extend beyond collecting. This occult thriller gives a detective-style investigation a restrained horror atmosphere, balancing the scrutiny of books and illustrations with dry humour and increasingly sinister encounters.
