Film Synopsis
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) portrays Pat Garrett taking office as Lincoln County sheriff and warning his old friend Billy the Kid to leave New Mexico. After Billy escapes from custody, Garrett tracks him on behalf of the territory’s powerful cattle interests. This revisionist Western unfolds as an elegiac series of encounters in which sudden violence, expansive landscapes and a spare folk score evoke the passing of friendship and the old frontier.
