A man returns home after a long absence to discover that his wife died in childbirth—and her coffin is mysteriously empty. As he probes the truth, he uncovers sinister grave-robbing cults, bizarre scientific experiments, and a monstrous hybrid creature rising from the earth. The film blends gothic atmosphere and body horror with disjointed narrative and shocking imagery—prized by some for its eerie mood, derided by others for being narratively confusing and uneven.

Wow, this is bad, and what’s worse is you don’t know how bad it is until you’re halfway through it and you realize, wow, this is bad. Then you see the monster responsible for this and words can’t explain how bad this is. … low-budget horror at its worst.
