She’s just off the bus from the deep south…

Emma Mae is an outstanding movie that very few people have seen; had it originally been released under its 1980s video title Black Sister’s Revenge, the film might have enjoyed much greater success. … Incorporating many seldom-seen details of inner city black life (kitchen table gossip, the preoccupation with skin colour and hair texture), Emma Mae is a sometimes preachy, sometimes stilted, but always engaging cinematic experience whose final act will leave you cheering.
